The Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway stretches approximately 30km providing a picturesque route that showcases the best of Ireland's natural beauty. The route follows the old Midlands Great Western Railway. As you pedal along this well-maintained trail, you'll be treated to stunning views of rolling hills, serene rivers, and charming villages. Whether you're a local or a tourist, The Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway offers a unique way to immerse yourself in the history and scenery of this enchanting region.
Where is The Best Place to Access The Greenway?
There are a number of access points you can enter the greenway and we recommend you start at Park Beo Wilkinstown because there is free parking and coffee shop with amazing ice cream. You'll find picnic benches, restrooms and even bike repair stations and ebike charging stations. Other good access points are Nobber, Kilmainham Wood. You can also enjoy the trail from the opposite direction and start at Kingscourt. This flat route is perfect for families, groups of friends, or solo adventurers looking to enjoy a peaceful ride through beautiful surroundings.
What's the Longest Greenway in Ireland?
For those seeking a more extensive adventure, the longest greenway in Ireland is the Royal Canal Greenway. This impressive trail spans over 130km, offering an unparalleled journey through the heart of Ireland's countryside starting in Maynooth and ending in Cloondara. Imagine spending a day or even a weekend cycling along this continuous route, stopping to explore quaint towns, historic sites, and lush landscapes along the way.
What Can You Expect on The Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway?
The trail is super chilled with little to no elevation in most places. The greenway just opened so you can expect plenty of places to take a break and enjoy a coffee or a slice of cake along the way. We recommend The Greenways Cafe in Nobber. It's a perfect place to stop for lunch or a coffee when you're on a 3 hour bike rental. And while you're in Nobber, be sure to check out St. John's Old Cemetery. The tomb of Gerald Cruise of Brittas dates back to 1619! You can also expect bike rentals from yours truly at Park Beo. If you go as far as Kingscourt you'll finish at the beautiful Dun an Ri Forest Park.
